At least 11 civilians were killed and dozens injured on Saturday morning when a drone strike hit the market area of Abu Zaeima in Hamrat El Sheikh locality, North Kordofan State, according to a preliminary toll that is expected to rise.
The attack comes less than a day after similar drone strikes targeted villages and civilian vehicles in the same area, marking a continued escalation of attacks affecting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Emergency Lawyers Group condemned the attack, describing it as part of a recurring pattern of violence against civilians. The group said that repeated strikes on villages, markets, and civilian means of transport demonstrate a blatant disregard for civilian lives and the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
On the previous day, drone strikes targeted the villages of Al-Khashkhasha and Al-Baqriyat near Abu Zaeima, killing two people and injuring five others, including three critically wounded victims who were transferred to Al-Marakh for medical treatment.
In a separate incident in the same area, another drone strike hit a civilian vehicle, killing two people and injuring one. The combined toll from the two attacks carried out on Friday rose to four deaths and six injuries.
According to the Emergency Lawyers Group, the number of civilian vehicles targeted in the area since 28 May 2026 has now reached five, reflecting a repeated pattern of indiscriminate attacks on civilian transportation.
The group strongly condemned the latest attacks, stressing that they are not isolated incidents but part of an ongoing pattern of direct attacks against civilian objects, constituting a serious violation of international humanitarian law. It called for an immediate end to such attacks and accountability for those responsible.
