35 Young Men Killed or Injured in Massacre West of Bara, North Kordofan

Areas west of the city of Bara in North Kordofan State witnessed yesterday one of the most horrific massacres to shake the region in recent months, following a large-scale armed attack targeting several peaceful villages.

The Dar Hamar Emergency Room accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the assault, which left more than 35 young men dead or injured amid widespread panic and mass displacement among residents.

According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the attack targeted the villages of Um Saadoun Al-Sharif, Al-Rouda, Al-Murra, and Sanawbar. A force affiliated with the RSF reportedly stormed the areas unexpectedly using heavily armed combat vehicles before opening random fire on civilians, particularly young men.

Residents said the victims were killed or wounded while attempting to protect their villages and families from the assault. Many of the injured could not receive medical treatment due to the collapse of health services and the difficulty of movement amid ongoing security threats.

Witnesses also reported that the attackers carried out widespread looting of property, including money, livestock, and agricultural crops, in addition to burning several homes and basic facilities inside the targeted villages. The attacks triggered a large wave of displacement toward safer areas.

One resident of Al-Rouda village said, “The situation is extremely tragic. People are living in constant fear after losing dozens of young men who represented the backbone of the community.” He added that many families are still searching for their missing sons.

In the same context, local sources stated that RSF elements continue to be deployed across most villages in Bara locality, heightening fears among residents of further attacks in the coming hours or days, especially in the absence of any effective intervention to protect civilians.

The sources added that villages west of Bara are facing extremely complex humanitarian conditions, including partial communication blackouts and severe shortages of food and medicine, while civilians continue fleeing conflict areas for fear of new violations.

These developments come at a time when several areas across Kordofan and Darfur are witnessing a marked escalation in violence and abuses against civilians, further deepening the humanitarian crisis and causing a rapid rise in the number of casualties and displaced people.

Activists and community leaders called for urgent intervention to protect civilians, open safe corridors for evacuating the wounded, and deliver humanitarian assistance to those affected. They warned that the continued presence of these forces inside the villages could lead to an even greater humanitarian catastrophe.

Residents of Bara locality also urged human rights and humanitarian organizations to document the violations committed in the targeted villages and help convey the voices of the victims to regional and international communities, while demanding accountability for those responsible for crimes against unarmed civilians.

Residents fear the recurrence of such attacks amid the continuing deterioration of security conditions and the widening scope of the conflict, while dozens of families remain trapped in painful uncertainty over the fate of their missing relatives, in an atmosphere dominated by grief, fear, and uncertainty.
