Emergency Lawyers: Arbitrary Arrest Campaign in RSF-Controlled Areas

Moatinoon
Emergency Lawyers said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arrested civilians Al-Fatih Abdulrahman Abdullah Wad Allah and Al-Sadiq Mohammed Saleh Abdullah Wad Allah on May 20, 2026, in the city of Ghubeish in West Kordofan, as part of what the group described as a random arrest campaign targeting dozens of civilians accused of sharing coordinates and collaborating with the army. The arrests followed a military drone strike on May 19, 2026, that targeted the Ghubeish market.

The group added that Al-Fatih Abdulrahman had previously been assaulted by RSF forces after they took control of Ghubeish in August 2024, resulting in injuries that required his transfer for treatment to the city of En Nahud. The organization said this raises serious concerns about his health and safety as he remains forcibly disappeared.

Emergency Lawyers stated that the arrests come amid an ongoing pattern of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances against civilians in RSF-controlled areas, where detainees are transferred to prisons and detention centers without legal procedures or protection guarantees.

The organization also warned of increasing reports of mistreatment and torture inside detention facilities, including Dagrees Prison in Nyala, which it said is overcrowded with civilians and marked by inhumane conditions.

Emergency Lawyers stressed that holding civilians incommunicado, preventing contact with their families, and concealing their whereabouts constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law and civilian protection principles. The group called for the immediate disclosure of the fate and whereabouts of forcibly disappeared detainees, guarantees for their safety, family access to communication, the release of all arbitrarily detained civilians, and an immediate end to arrest campaigns and related abuses against civilians.
