Violations Target Citizens in El Fasher and Khartoum
Moatinoon
A video clip documenting the shooting of a citizen by a member of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher has drawn widespread condemnation among social media users. Meanwhile, the Emergency Lawyers group said it had observed a dangerous increase in violations committed by the security forces in the national capital.
Social media users condemned the El Fasher incident, in which a citizen was killed after a brief interrogation by a member of the RSF before being shot dead. According to the short video, the citizen was shot dead after denying knowledge when asked about the location of the military division commander in El Fasher.
This incident is part of the ongoing violations committed by the RSF against unarmed citizens under the pretext of cooperating with the army.
In the same context, the Emergency Lawyers group condemned the violations committed against citizens in the capital, Khartoum, and held the security cell, the judicial authorities, and the army fully responsible.
The group said it has documented hundreds of arrests and dozens of missing persons whose families are still searching for them to no avail. It noted that the responsible authorities are deliberately concealing their fate and refusing to provide any information about their whereabouts.
In a statement issued today, the group added that the security cell is exerting direct pressure on the victims families, including threats of death or arrest, and sometimes making false promises to discourage them from demanding the rights of their loved ones, compounding the families tragedy.
The group stressed the need to immediately halt all forms of arbitrary arrests and physical liquidations, activate international accountability mechanisms, including referring these crimes to the International Criminal Court, hold all those responsible accountable, regardless of their positions, and ensure that they do not escape punishment.
