The Collective of Demand Bodies “TAM” held the Sudanese authorities, represented by the Ministry of Minerals and the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, responsible for the Hoyt mine collapse, which resulted in the deaths of 11 miners. It stated that the authorities contributed to the accident by concealing the collapses and adopting a technical report from a delegation that ruled out the existence of any risks at the present time.

The Collective noted that a technical delegation from the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company visited the area for a field inspection prior to the accident and denied the existence of any danger or possibility of an imminent collapse.

The Collective stated in a post on its Facebook page that the authorities ignored citizens demands more than a month ago to close the mine, to avoid potential collapses related to the type of soil and drilling methods, and as a result of successive collapses in the same mine, recorded in police records but not reported.

In the developments surrounding the collapse of mining wells at the "Hoyt" mine, located between the Red Sea and Nile River states in a desert area near the city of Atbara, the latest official statistics indicate that 60 miners were inside adjacent wells when the series of collapses began last Wednesday. As a result of two days of rescue efforts, the workers, including 10 injured, were rescued. Eleven bodies were recovered, while nine workers were reported missing and likely died under the rubble of the collapsed wells, according to local police records.

The group accused the company of negligence and failure to ensure safety measures, safe drilling, and the provision of oxygen pumps for workers inside the wells. It stated that the safety of mining workers is not as important to the company as it is to the financial returns it generates from mining activities.
