The United Nations has reported that civilians in Sudan continue to flee due to the ongoing conflict and widespread insecurity across the country.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), nearly 12,300 people were newly displaced between June 10 and 14 in North Darfur, South Kordofan, and West Kordofan. This figure includes an estimated 1,000 individuals who fled Abu Shouk displacement camp and the city of El Fasher in North Darfur due to insecurity and worsening economic conditions.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq stated during a daily press briefing:
“Reports indicate that the displaced have moved to other parts of El Fasher as well as to Tawila locality, where the UN and its partners on the ground have been scaling up support for new arrivals in recent months.”
In South Kordofan, nearly 11,000 people were displaced from 10 villages in Al-Goz locality between June 12 and 14, joining more than 9,000 people who had already fled the same area on May 29.
Farhan Haq added that most of these newly displaced individuals have moved to Sheikan locality in North Kordofan, while others sought refuge in parts of South and West Kordofan.
The United Nations reiterated its call for the protection of civilians and urged for unrestricted humanitarian access so that aid can reach those in urgent need of life-saving assistance.
