
WHO Deploys Cholera Control Teams to Sudan

She said that hospitals in Gaza are struggling to provide even the bare minimum of services due to the ban on the entry of life-saving aid after nine weeks of a comprehensive Israeli blockade, warning of an Israeli proposal to abolish the UN aid distribution system.
The WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, warned of the spread of cholera in Sudan, where 24.6 million people, including 770,000 children, face food insecurity, amid ongoing attacks on civilians and health infrastructure.
She said that the organization continues to support 136 emergency centers in Sudan and deploy medical teams to combat cholera, which has killed 1,600 people in 12 states.
Yesterday, the Sudanese Ministry of Health announced that measles cases had risen to 138 in three Sudanese states in one week.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Healths Emergency Operations Center confirmed the recording of 138 new measles cases in North Darfur, River Nile, and White Nile states between May 3 and 9. The statement also reported a decline in cholera and dengue fever cases in all reporting states, with the exception of Khartoum State. It also noted the dispatch of field teams to several states to assess preparations for the fall season.
