The Coordination of the Resistance Committees of El Fasher reported that the attacks on Abu Shouk camp continued this morning, resulting in the deaths of 6 people and a number of injuries among the displaced people in the camp.

The coordination reported yesterday that the Rapid Support Forces targeted Abu Shouk camp with artillery shelling that left more than 80 dead and wounded, most of them children and women.

According to BBC Radio, a local official reported that the Rapid Support Forces attacked a crowded market in Abu Shouk, on the outskirts of El Fasher, for about two hours on Tuesday evening.

The camp houses more than half a million displaced people, and the attack on its market is the second in three days.

El Fasher is the last major city in Darfur under army control, and has been besieged by the Rapid Support Forces for nearly a year.

Tuesdays attack on Abu Shouk took place at the busiest time of the day. Most of the camps residents are Muslims, observing the holy month of Ramadan, and many were shopping in the market, preparing to break their daily fast for the day.

Dr Ibrahim Nadian, a doctor at the last functioning hospital in El Fasher, told the BBC that the shelling caused many injuries, ranging from minor to severe.

Local health volunteers said the camp was also shelled by the Rapid Support Forces on Sunday, in an attack that killed six civilians.
