40 killed in RFS attack on central Sudans Wad al-Ashib

Moatinoo - Agencies
A medical source said on Wednesday that 40 people were killed by "gunshot wounds" during a military attack on the village of Wad Ashib in the central state of Al Jazeera.

Witnesses in the village told AFP that the RSF, at war with the army since April 2023, had attacked the village on Tuesday evening. "The attack resumed this morning," an eyewitness said on Wednesday, adding that paramilitary fighters were "looting property."

Events began to escalate in Al Jazeera State following the insolvency of the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Al Jazeera State, Abu Akil Kikel, and his accession to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) last October.

Villages and towns in the east of the state have witnessed widespread violations against civilians and have resulted in hundreds of deaths due to direct injuries or illnesses and food shortages caused by the blockade of those villages, as well as large displacements to Kassala and Al-Qadarif States adjacent to the island.
