IDP Coordination in Darfur monitors armed violations inside camps
Moatinoon
The General Coordinator of displaced and refugee camps monitored multiple violations against displaced persons in the camps in Darfur.
In a statement today, the Coordinators spokesperson, Adam Gamel, said that grave human rights violations continue against displaced persons in the camps at a high pace. The escalation reflected the apparent intentions of some parties to the conflict to relocate battlefields to densely populated areas and to place military outposts inside displaced persons camps.
The war victims in the camps had become human shields, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The coordinator documented some grave violations, and the coordinators statement said that the displaced person at Camp McGer, Abdelkader Abdelrazek, was killed upon his return from Friday prayers when two gunmen intercepted him on a motorcycle and demanded that he deliver a bag he was carrying. IDP Ishag Daw Al-Bayt in Kalma camp was also directly shot by an armed group south of the camp.
In the same context, the Coordinator said that the Rapid Support Forces were exerting pressure on young people in Camp Shangil Topai, and that the camp administration was obliged to recruit young people to join their ranks.
The Coordinator appealed to the parties to the conflict to move away from displaced persons camps and not to turn them into a battlefield. It reiterated its appeal to the international community to pressure the parties to the conflict to halt the war, cease grave violations against civilians and facilitate humanitarian access for those in need who have suffered since the outbreak of the war.
