The East Nile Emergency Room, Khartoum State, painted a grim picture of the situation in the Um Dawwan Ban area after the displacement of large numbers of citizens of villages east of the island.

The Chamber stated that more than 2,000 families had been displaced from the islands eastern towns and villages to the Umm Dwa Ban area and were suffering from deteriorating health and living conditions, as well as severe shortages of basic needs, especially those with chronic illnesses and those infected after the recent RSF attack.

It cautioned against the uncontrolled situation as a result of the large numbers of cholera cases that threaten the lives of the population, in view of the lack of food, food, good life and adequate shelter for displaced families, especially children and the elderly.

The Chambers statement stated that cases reaching treatment exceeded the capacity to accommodate the only hospital in the area. More than 200 cases of cholera were reported at the isolation centre of Um Dawan Ban Hospital, with 50 deaths in the last three days.

On Thursday, Um Dawwan Ban Hospital declared a state of utmost emergency, other than many cholera infections inside the Um Dawwan Ban Masjid, which is looking for dozens of displaced people.

The East Nile Emergency Chamber appealed to all local and international humanitarian organizations, all relevant bodies and the Sudanese peoples community to urgently intervene and support the considerable efforts of the people of Um Dawwan Ban in cooperation with the Chamber and to contribute to providing food and health humanitarian support to avert this disaster for the people of the region and displaced persons, and to ensure an adequate shelter that preserved the dignity and safety of the arrivals.

It also appealed to the authorities concerned to open roads for citizens, allow access to humanitarian aid, medical aids and foodstuffs and allow the evacuation of stranded citizens.
