The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that the war in Sudan, which erupted on April 15, 2023, has displaced more than 7 million children. Children account for 52% of a total of 14 million Sudanese internally displaced persons or refugees to neighbouring countries, becoming the largest country facing a child displacement crisis worldwide.

OHCHR issued a recent report warning of the impact of the war on childrens future in the Sudan, where 24 million children are at risk of losing their fundamental rights to life, such as the right to education, health and survival. The Committee on the Rights of the Child also stressed the need to stop violations against children, including their recruitment and involvement in armed conflict.

Thousands of children were reportedly killed, and many were subjected to sexual violence and deprivation of basic needs, in grave violation of international law. Médecins sans frontières (MSF) also noted that hundreds of children are at risk of dying from preventable diseases due to lack of basic health care. In addition, 32% of Sudanese children suffer from malnutrition, a rate that exceeds global emergency levels.

The war forced more than 10.9 million Sudanese internally displaced to 183 regions in the various states of the Sudan, and 3.1 million people fled to neighbouring countries in search of safety. There are 14 million children in need of urgent humanitarian support, while 3.7 1 million are severely malnourished. Because of the ongoing conflict, 19 million children are out of the education system, threatening the future of a generation.
