The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced today, Wednesday, an increase in the number of dengue fever cases to about 2,024, including 9 deaths, while the number of cholera deaths has reached 699.

In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry said: "The cholera epidemic report revealed the registration of 82 new cases on Monday, including one death, bringing the total number of cases in 74 localities across 11 states to 24,604, with 699 deaths."

The report also mentioned "95 new dengue fever cases, including four deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 2,024, with 9 deaths across 20 localities in 5 states."

Severe dengue fever occurs when blood vessels are damaged and blood leaks from them, while the number of clotting cells (platelets) in the bloodstream drops. This can lead to shock, internal bleeding, organ failure, and even death.

The statement noted that "interventions against cholera have led to a decrease in cases in several states and a reduction in the number of patients entering isolation centers, particularly in Kassala, Khartoum, River Nile, Northern State, and Gedaref. However, there has been a rise in other states, including Al Jazeera, Sennar, and White Nile."
