The United States envoy for the Sudan, Tom Brelio, said that the group "Allied to Save Lives and Peace in the Sudan" continued to press for expanded humanitarian access in the Sudan, including flights, enhanced protection of civilians and security for humanitarian workers on the lines of confrontation.

In his Facebook account, Prelio said it was necessary for the Transitional Sovereign Council to extend its agreement to renew the opening of the Adré border crossing at least six months before it expires.

Yesterday, the Group urged the Sudanese parties to improve and strengthen humanitarian access throughout the country and address the issue of the protection of civilians, expressing its optimism at the African Unions visit to Port Sudan, and monitoring them to follow up on commitments made.

The group, which includes Saudi Arabia, America, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the African Union and the United Nations, held a virtual meeting last Friday to discuss the escalation of the conflict and the deterioration of the Sudans humanitarian situation.

Yesterday, a statement by the Transitional Sovereign Council called for the indefinite extension of the agreement to open the Adri border crossing for the delivery of humanitarian assistance, noting that thousands of tons of aid had passed through it.

The group stressed that the armed and rapid support forces should take steps to ensure the safety and protection of frontline health and humanitarian workers, while calling on them to reduce conflict and escalation and facilitate the cessation of hostilities, thereby enabling freedom of movement.

Members commended the courageous work of local volunteers and response networks, commending the nomination of the Sudanese Emergency Response Room on the front lines of the Nobel Peace Prize, which was an important signal in the light of their decisive work.

They also urged the warring parties to facilitate the use of Kadugli Airport for United Nations, NGOs and other humanitarian actors humanitarian flights from southern Sudan as a start, while resolving technical problems related to in-country aviation.

The Group called for the establishment of a mechanism to avoid conflict and alert; to ensure the safety and security of aircraft and personnel involved in the management of air operations.
