Despite the ongoing war in Sudan, refugees from neighboring countries have continued to flow into the country. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that 391 new asylum seekers from Ethiopia, Eritrea, and South Sudan arrived during the first week of this month in the states of Kassala, White Nile, and Red Sea.
The UNHCR stated that it registered more than 1,000 refugees overall during the same period in the states of Kassala, Red Sea, Gedaref, White Nile, and Khartoum.
In its latest report, the agency confirmed the identities of more than 1,750 refugees in the states of Gedaref, Khartoum, Kassala, and Red Sea and issued updated identity documents to 1,630 refugees.
The report added that more undocumented asylum seekers are heading to registration offices to obtain documentation as identity verification and refugee registration resumed in the Karari area of Khartoum State.
