A total of 123 deaths and more than 950 cases have been recorded over 23 days at the cholera isolation center in Sennar City. Since September 17, civilians have been facing significant challenges due to the spread of cholera, malaria, and conjunctivitis. On Wednesday alone, the isolation center admitted 200 new cases.
These statistics only cover the registered cases documented during the past period. Experts have stated, "We need to make more efforts to reach those facing difficulties in the neighborhoods, villages, and towns of Sennar State."
They also reported that the infection rate in neighborhoods and shelters has reached an average of seven new cases per day, noting that the number of cases is much higher in towns and rural areas that cannot access the isolation center. The regions most affected by cholera, fevers, and other diseases include Sennar, East Sennar, Singa, Al-Dinder, and Al-Suki, where over 365 medical facilities, centers, and health units are out of service due to destruction and looting.
The experts called for the protection and rescue of civilians through the opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver aid and medicine to Sennar City and all areas and localities of the state.
They added that civilians are facing catastrophic risks and severe difficulties, living under harsh conditions in Sennar City, with a lack of all basic services. The ongoing war, its consequences, and the spread of disease are devastating them.
