International IDEA Organizes Advanced Workshop to Train Sudanese Journalists

Kampala - Moatinoon
The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), in cooperation with the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, is organizing an advanced training workshop for journalists on constructive and digital journalism. The workshop will take place from October 6th to 10th in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, facilitated by a Lebanese expert specializing in training journalists on advanced digital tools. This workshop is part of an ongoing collaboration between International IDEA and the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, which includes several capacity-building workshops aimed at supporting journalism during wartime and enhancing the role of grassroots reporters in covering war-related news.

The five-day workshop will cover the basics of mobile photography, aiming to strengthen Sudanese journalists’ abilities to practice constructive journalism, which connects with social movements and drives change. The trainers will focus on developing mobile journalism skills as an effective and safe tool for covering events in conflict zones.

Twenty journalists will participate in the course, receiving intensive training in digital journalism, including video production and editing using smartphones, along with learning the principles of constructive journalism, which focuses on solution-oriented reporting and promoting peaceful coexistence.

This workshop is expected to enable Sudanese journalists to provide accurate and reliable reports amid the difficult circumstances of war and the destruction of media institutions. The training aims to encourage positive societal change through the use of modern media technology.

The workshop also aims to establish a set of ethical and professional guidelines, making media a part of peacebuilding and promoting peaceful coexistence in Sudan.
