Emergency Lawyers: 35 Victims of Violence and Lack of Healthcare on Tuti Island
Moatinoon
The group "Emergency Lawyers" condemned the ongoing assaults by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on civilians, including starving them, and called on the international and regional community to denounce the violations. The group stressed the need for pressure to stop the abuses, cease looting civilians food, and allow humanitarian cases and medical services to reach the island.
In a statement today, the group reported that 35 people have lost their lives due to violence and lack of healthcare, with a significant number of injured and critically ill individuals since September 26.
The statement highlighted the escalation of violations carried out by the RSF against the civilian population of the island, located between the three cities of the capital Khartoum, following the opening of operations by the armed forces in several areas of Bahri and Khartoum. It stated, "The RSF stationed on the island began targeting civilians through beatings and humiliation after they left the mosque. Additionally, these forces raided 15 homes, beating residents, including women, with whips and threatening them with death."
The group also reported that the forces stationed on the island are attacking communal kitchens set up to feed the island’s residents with aid provided by Sudanese expatriates. RSF members have been regularly looting these kitchens, as well as robbing all shops, especially grocery stores, exacerbating the humanitarian situation due to severe food shortages on the island.
The group warned of the spread of dengue fever and malaria among civilians, as healthcare services collapse due to a shortage of medical supplies caused by the blockade on the island. The blockade has restricted movement and closed the only bridge connecting the island to the city of Khartoum, which is the islands lifeline.
In this regard, the Khartoum Local Emergency Rooms reported that RSF forces have looted and destroyed the islands health center, outpatient clinic, and pharmacies.
