Emergency Lawyers Call for an End to Extrajudicial Killings

Moatinoon
The "Emergency Lawyers" group stated that their sources confirmed instances of severe violations by forces of the Al-Bara Ibn Malik Brigade and members of the army in the Al-Halfaya area of Khartoum North on September 29th. In a statement today, they added that these violations included arbitrary arrests and extrajudicial killings.

The group considered these acts a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, amounting to crimes against humanity according to recognized international standards.

The group called for an end to extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and threats to civilian lives. They pointed out that the violations were based on ethnic and regional grounds, with some incidents being responses to incitement and hatred, all under the pretext of collaboration with the Rapid Support Forces, which had controlled the neighborhood for nearly a year since the war broke out on April 15th.

The group demanded that all warring parties uphold their legal obligations under international humanitarian law, which strictly prohibits targeting or discriminating against civilians on any basis. They also called on the United Nations Human Rights Council and regional and international human rights organizations to take necessary measures to ensure the protection of civilians in Al-Halfaya.

They warned that the continued violations without accountability perpetuate a climate of impunity and worsen the humanitarian and security situation. The group stressed the need for swift and immediate action to stop these crimes and ensure the protection of civilians in all conflict-affected areas.
