3 people died and 117‪ were infected with cholera in the eastern state of Gedaref, bringing the number of deaths to 372 and the number of infections to 1,134, according to the latest report of the states health and epidemiological department.

The report stated that the most registered localities were FAO, with 54 cases, while Al-Gedaref and Al-Rahad registered 21 cases for both. The report noted the continuation of interventions aimed at reducing the spread of the disease.

The state Ministry of Health appealed to citizens not to eat exposed foods, wash hands with soap and water and follow health safety guidelines when feeling symptoms and going to the nearest health unit. She called on citizens not to gather in isolation centres and treat cases.

The Federal Ministry of Health said in a statement that the cumulative infection rate of the latest outbreak had reached 9,533 cases as of Sunday.

Sudans Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim officially announced the outbreak of cholera in the country on August 17. The Ministry attributed the spread of cholera to the deterioration of environmental conditions resulting from war and the use of unclean water.

Since fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023, epidemiological diseases such as cholera, malaria, measles and dengue have spread, resulting in hundreds of deaths. The conflict has killed at least 20,000 people and displaced millions of people, according to United Nations reports.
