The United States has announced millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to support refugees in Libya affected by the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which will administer the funds, stated that the aid will be directed to two United Nations agencies: UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP).
In a statement on Monday, USAID explained that the support for UNICEF will help provide vital nutritional aid for thousands of children under the age of five, including screening for malnutrition and treating both severe and moderate acute malnutrition. Meanwhile, the support for WFP will offer critical food assistance to Sudanese families, addressing their most urgent needs.
USAID praised Libya for its continued efforts in hosting Sudanese refugees and urged other donors to follow suit and intensify their efforts to support those affected by the crisis, both within Sudan and across the region.
