Sudan: East Nile Locality Heading Towards a Health Catastrophe

Moatinoon
The East Nile Emergency Room, in Khartoum State, has warned of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster due to the deteriorating health situation in the area.

The emergency room issued an urgent appeal, calling on health organizations for immediate intervention and the provision of basic medical support to control the situation before it escalates into uncontrollable epidemics.

In a statement today, the emergency room said that the war entering its 17th month, coinciding with the rainy season, has worsened the health situation and led to the spread of diseases associated with environmental degradation.

The room recorded 1,776 cases of malaria, 1,844 cases of diarrhea, with 3 deaths among them. It also recorded 4 cases of cholera, 80 cases of dengue fever, and 8 deaths from it.

Inadequate dialysis sessions led to the death of 12 patients, in addition to 211 people suffering from acute conjunctivitis, 528 patients with malnutrition, and anemia.

The room suggested that the actual numbers might be higher, as many patients are unable to reach healthcare centers. It noted receiving daily reports of multiple deaths due to patients being unable to access medical facilities and receive necessary treatment.

The emergency room also highlighted the severe shortage of medicines and the inability to deliver supplies to many areas, in addition to the financial hardship faced by chronic disease patients.
