Kassala State Announces the Toll of Cholera Infections and Deaths

Health authorities in Kassala State, eastern Sudan, announced the toll of cholera infections and deaths across the state’s localities. The report from the Health Administration and Epidemic Control stated that the number of cholera cases reached 4,278 infections.

The report clarified that the number of deaths reached 148 cases from the total infections recorded between July 25 and September 15. It was revealed that the first cases appeared in Kassala State on June 25 at Wad El-Hilou Hospital, according to the disease surveillance official.

The report indicated that the first 8 suspected cases appeared at Kassala Teaching Hospital, including one death, on August 2.

The most affected locality was Kassala, where the number of cholera infections reached 1,351, leading to 25 deaths, according to the report. In the city of Khashm El Girba, there were 547 cholera cases resulting in 16 deaths.

The report also mentioned that the number of cases in western Kassala reached 399, with 3 deaths, while in rural Kassala, 285 cases were recorded, resulting in 16 deaths. In the Hameshkoreib locality, 348 cases were recorded, leading to 6 deaths.

In the Halfa Al-Jadida locality, 381 cases were recorded, resulting in 17 deaths, while in rural Aroma locality, 240 cases were reported, leading to 14 deaths. In the Telkuk locality, 208 infections were reported, resulting in 24 deaths. In the Atbara River locality, there were 17 cases of cholera, with no deaths, and in the Northern Delta locality, 106 cases were recorded, leading to 8 deaths.
