Doctors Union: The Medical Council neglects to issue registration certificates

Moatinoon
The Preliminary Committee of the Doctors Union has expressed concern over the ongoing delay in issuing preliminary registration certificates for nearly 2,000 doctors (general medicine and dentistry) since March 2023. It announced its rejection of the Medical Councils disregard for the demands of affected doctors, denouncing the councils unjustified refusal to meet with doctors representatives and its insistence on dealing with individuals separately.

In a statement yesterday, seen by Muwatinin (Citizens), the committee said this delay, which has now exceeded a year and a half, poses a major obstacle to the professional careers of these doctors and negatively affects Sudans healthcare system, especially under the current circumstances. It represents a blatant disregard for the rights of these doctors and the escalating health crisis in the country.

The committee warned that the shortage of medical staff, especially interns, significantly impacts the provision of healthcare services to citizens. It pointed out that this delay exacerbates the challenges facing the healthcare sector amidst the current epidemic outbreaks.

The committee added that doctors, who have taken their oaths and committed to serving their country, are facing uncertainty and anxiety due to this delay. It revealed that these doctors have endured much effort and expense to obtain their certificates, including traveling under difficult wartime conditions.

The committee called on the Sudanese Medical Council to take urgent action to issue preliminary registration certificates for all doctors who have completed the necessary procedures and paid the required fees. It also demanded a clear and transparent mechanism for issuing the certificates within a specific and binding timeframe.

The Preliminary Committee of the Sudanese Doctors Union emphasized the importance of effective coordination between the Sudanese Medical Council, the Ministry of Health, and all stakeholders to overcome all obstacles facing doctors and facilitate their enrollment in internship programs.

The committee expressed its full readiness to cooperate with the Sudanese Medical Council and provide any possible assistance to resolve this crisis, stressing the importance of constructive and transparent dialogue with the representatives of the affected doctors.
