UK Appoints a New Envoy to Sudan

The United Kingdom announced today the appointment of Richard Crowder as the new Head of the British Office in Sudan and the UKs Special Envoy to Sudan, succeeding Mr. Giles Lever.

Richard Crowder assumed his position as Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan in January 2017. He has worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for twenty years, holding positions in Moscow and Brussels. His most recent role was Head of the EU Referendum Unit at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The new envoy speaks Arabic, Russian, and French, and is learning Urdu. Richard is married to Hilary, and they have two sons. In 2015, he published his first book titled "Consequences: Makers of the Post-War World," about the period following the end of World War II.
