Emergency lawyers condemned the dangerous escalation of military actions and the targeting of civilians in the cities of El-Obeid and Sennar. The "Emergency Lawyers" group stated that several areas in Sennar were subjected to artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in the death of 21 people and the injury of 100 others.
The group added that military aircraft of the Sudanese Armed Forces launched an airstrike on the city of Al-Suki, killing four people, including children. In the city of El-Obeid, one civilian was killed, and 17 others were injured due to indiscriminate shelling by the RSF.
According to the Sudan Doctors Network on Sunday, at least 21 civilians were killed, and dozens were injured in an artillery shelling by the paramilitary RSF on a market in the central Sudanese city of Sennar.
The network said in a statement: "About 21 people were killed, and more than 70 were injured as a result of the artillery shelling by the RSF on Sennar market on Sunday evening."
The network condemned the "massacre committed by the RSF against civilians in Sennar by targeting crowded civilian areas in markets, leading to heavy civilian casualties."
On June 24, the RSF attacked Sennar state and took control of several cities.
Since mid-April last year, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF have been engaged in a war that has led to the death of more than 20,000 people and the displacement of approximately 10 million refugees and internally displaced persons, according to the United Nations.
International calls, including from the UN, are growing for an end to the war to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe that is pushing millions towards famine and death due to food shortages caused by the fighting, which has spread to 13 out of Sudan’s 18 states.
