After the Emergency Committee of Abu Shouk Camp in North Darfur Announced the Collapse of Thousands of Homes Yesterday, the Sudanese Meteorological Authority Today Warned of Very Heavy Rains Accompanied by Strong Winds and Thunderstorms in Several Areas of the Country, Including the Darfur States.

The Early Warning Unit of the Authority indicated the possibility of floods and flash floods as a result of these extreme weather conditions.

The Authority stated that the forecasts include "Central Red Sea State, Eastern Blue Nile State, West Kordofan State, Northern South Darfur State, and the Eastern and Central Darfur States, in addition to the northern and southern parts of North Darfur State."

The Emergency Committee of Abu Shouk Camp in North Darfur announced yesterday, Friday, that at least 3,000 homes in the camp have collapsed due to the rains and floods that swept through the camp this week. The affected people are living in the open and are in dire need of tents.

The entire camp requires more drainage channels, as the stagnant water pools will cause many diseases among the malnourished residents.

The Emergency Committee described the humanitarian situation in the camp as "catastrophic," stating that "the health situation is out of control." Most children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition, "with no child care supplies or medicines available for the elderly."

The Emergency Committee in Abu Shouk Camp called on "all international and national relief organizations" to support the charitable kitchen projects and provide medicines for the people, especially the displaced in Darfur.
