Today, the Early Warning Unit of the Sudanese General Meteorological Authority issued a warning about the possibility of very heavy rainfall affecting several states within the coming hours.
Vast areas of the Red Sea State have already been impacted by floods, torrential rains, and storms, leading to a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The collapse of the Arbaat Dam has resulted in the deaths of dozens of citizens, alongside the flooding caused by Khor Baraka.
In Tokar locality in the southern part of the state, heavy rains and the overflowing of Khor Baraka River have caused a partial collapse of the Dolbiai Bridge, isolating the area from the rest of the state.
The Director of Civil Defense Forces in the state, Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed Hamidan, stated in a press release that the heavy rains led to the collapse of several houses in the villages of Hanwit, Eribibai, Kudwit Balonai, and Rabaaiyit, with three people injured.
Reports indicate that the floodwaters of Khor Baraka have swept through the city of Tokar, leading to the collapse of several houses and the death of three people, according to eyewitnesses from the area. The floodwaters and torrents continue to besiege many villages, with communication services disrupted.
The floods have also washed away and cut off the national highway connecting the Red Sea State with other states of Sudan at multiple locations, halting trade between Sudan and Egypt after parts of the coastal road linking Port Sudan and the Oseif crossing were washed away.
In the Arbaat area, the number of stranded people has increased as floods swept through the villages of "Qanab and Awleeb" locality. So far, around 100 people are reported missing near the "Arbaat Dam," and several commercial trucks, the only means of transport in the area, were washed away by the floods.
According to the Demand Bodies Coalition "TAM," the floodwaters continue to flow into the villages of (Kisibai, Hadidnab) in the Arbaat agricultural area, leading to the destruction of many homes and creating a major food crisis that requires urgent intervention.
