The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that the first trucks loaded with aid have crossed the Adré border from Chad into Sudan.

In a tweet on its account on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the WFP stated, "The trucks carrying vital food supplies have crossed the border from Chad into Sudan through Adré, and those at risk of famine will receive life-saving assistance."

The organization further explained, "Within just a few days of the border reopening, we have mobilized nutritional and food aid for the Darfur region."

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) echoed this in a separate tweet, saying, "More trucks are on the way as we continue to respond to the famine and conflict in Sudan." USAID highlighted that the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), WFP, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) were among the first to transport food and health supplies.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, confirmed that more than a dozen aid trucks loaded with supplies crossed from Chad into Sudan on Wednesday. She expressed her satisfaction with "the progress made after the reopening of the Adré crossing," noting that "the sustained and expanded delivery of supplies is a crucial step toward meeting the urgent needs of Sudanese people during the peak of the rainy and dry seasons in August and September in Darfur."

U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, considered the arrival of aid through the Adré crossing a significant advancement in the Geneva negotiations. He shared this during a meeting with the African Union Expanded Mechanism, where he briefed them on "the critical progress made by international delegations in the Swiss talks, including enabling trucks to transport life-saving humanitarian aid through the Adré border crossing."

In a tweet on his X account, Hammer confirmed that the delegations in Switzerland are working to "enhance humanitarian access, protect civilians, and uphold the Jeddah Declaration and the cessation of hostilities in Sudan."
