Dozens Killed in RSF Attack on a Village in Sennar State

Agencies - Moatinoon
At least 80 people were killed in an attack by a unit of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the village of Jilangi in Sennar State, while their representatives in Switzerland were holding talks on ending the 16-month-long war in the country.

Sources told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the attack took place on Thursday in the village of Jilangi.

A medical source told the agency that 55 bodies and dozens of wounded, some in critical condition, were brought to the hospital on Thursday. The source added that 25 of the wounded died by Friday morning, bringing the death toll to 80.

A resident of Jilangi, who was accompanying his injured son to the hospital, reported that armed men in three armed vehicles arrived in the village yesterday and attempted to storm homes, but the residents resisted them.

He added that the attackers withdrew but later returned in greater force with more than 10 vehicles and randomly opened fire on the village, leading to the casualties.

The war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has resulted in an estimated 150,000 deaths, the displacement of more than 10 million people, and has pushed the country to the brink of famine.
