More than 10 people have died, and others are missing due to the rains and floods that swept through the city of Abu Hamed and its surroundings in the northern River Nile State. Heavy rains began yesterday and continued until early this morning, Tuesday, causing hundreds of houses to collapse in the city and shops in the old Abu Hamed market.
An eyewitness told the news outlet Moatinoon that the mining areas, located about 10 kilometers from the city, suffered significant losses. The collapses resulted in the death of more than 10 people and others going missing. The most affected areas include the neighborhoods of Al-Qoz, Square One, and the old market.
The Red Crescent Society is attempting to provide urgent aid to the affected, but they cannot meet the significant needs due to the large number of people impacted in the locality and the city.
According to Al-Sharq News, Fadil Mohammed Mahmoud, Director of the General Administration of Emergency Health and Epidemic Control, stated that 32 deaths were recorded, and 5,575 homes were damaged due to the impact of floods and rains in seven states across the country.
