Syndicate: Rapid Support Forces Continue to Detain Journalists

Moatinoon
The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has confirmed that the state of press and media freedom, as well as freedom of expression, is worsening. In a statement issued today, the syndicate reported a rise in violations of varying levels against journalists since the outbreak of the war in Sudan on April 15 of the previous year.

The statement noted that the Rapid Support Forces continue to detain Mamoun Hassan Hamid, a sound engineer at Sudanese Radio, since February 2 in Omdurman, without releasing him as of the date of the statements issuance.

The syndicate condemned the continued detention of Mamoun Hassan, holding the Rapid Support Forces responsible for his safety and security. It demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

The syndicate warned the Rapid Support Forces against escalating violations against journalists, targeting them, and prolonging their detention. It also cautioned against using detention as a means to silence, intimidate, and terrorize journalists.
