97 Citizens Killed and Injured After RSF Shelling of El Fasher
Moatinoon - Agencies
The Coordination of Resistance Committees in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, reported that they have recorded 97 cases of civilians killed and injured due to artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces, which targeted the main market, the livestock market, hospitals, and citizens homes.
Meanwhile, the French news agency quoted a doctor at the Saudi Hospital in the city, who spoke on condition of anonymity, saying that "the shelling of the livestock market and the Al-Radaif neighborhood resulted in the death of 22 people and the injury of 17."
This was the deadliest shelling reported since the beginning of the month when 15 civilians were killed in the shelling of another market in the city.
Intense fighting for El Fasher broke out on May 10, leading the Rapid Support Forces to impose a siege that trapped hundreds of thousands of civilians.
Last month, the United Nations Security Council issued a resolution demanding an end to the siege.
American mediators will make a new attempt in Switzerland next month to reach an end to the fighting. Talks are scheduled to begin on August 14.
