Five Civilians Killed in Drone Strike South Omdurman

Moatinoon
The Emergency Lawyers Group reported that a drone operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck a civilian vehicle today on the Al-Jamouiya Triangle road in southern rural Omdurman. The vehicle, which was traveling from Sheikh Al-Siddiq area in White Nile State, was carrying five civilians, all of whom were killed in the attack.

The incident comes amid a renewed wave of drone strikes targeting areas within the capital, reflecting a recurring pattern of attacks on civilians in public roads and populated areas, further worsening the humanitarian situation and expanding risks to civilian life.

The Emergency Lawyers Group strongly condemned the attack, holding the RSF fully responsible for the incident and the resulting loss of civilian lives. The group stated that the strike constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which obliges the protection of civilians and prohibits targeting them under any circumstances, emphasizing the principle of distinction between civilian and military targets. It added that such acts amount to serious crimes that require accountability without impunity.

The group reiterated its call for an immediate halt to indiscriminate attacks on civilians and urged measures to ensure their full protection, including securing roads and residential areas, in order to end the repeated targeting of innocent lives.

In a notable escalation, drone activity has resumed in Khartoum State after several months of relative calm. On Friday, an RSF drone targeted a vehicle belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces in Salha area, southwest of Omdurman, with witnesses reporting a loud explosion following a direct hit.

In a parallel development, a hospital in Khartoum State was targeted by a drone late last week, marking the first such incident in months, after the army had regained control of the area from the RSF about a year ago.

A witness said, “A drone struck Al-Amal Hospital in Jabal Awliya,” located about 45 kilometers south of Khartoum. A security source noted that the damage to buildings was “minor,” indicating that the strike hit a fuel station near the hospital.
