Drone Strike Targets Al-Hamidiyah Camp in Darfour

Moatinoon
A drone attack struck Al-Hamidiyah Camp (Block Four) in the city of Zalingei on Monday morning, reportedly attributed to the Sudanese army, injuring 15 people with varying degrees of wounds, according to the General Coordination of Camps for the Displaced and Refugees. The injured were transferred to Zalingei Hospital for treatment. The attack also destroyed a number of shelters داخل the camp, causing widespread panic among residents, particularly women and children.

This attack comes amid escalating security threats targeting displacement camps over the past three months, with repeated incidents of shelling and direct strikes on civilian areas and locations presumed to be safe. On April 24, humanitarian aid convoys—carrying food supplies, medicines, and shelter materials—were targeted, in addition to strikes on markets and medical facilities. Humanitarian organizations described these developments as obstructing relief efforts and endangering the lives of thousands of civilians.

The Coordination described these attacks as a “serious violation of international humanitarian law” that may amount to war crimes, calling for an independent international investigation and accountability for those responsible. It strongly condemned the continued targeting of civilians and humanitarian infrastructure, warning of the grave consequences for displaced populations.

The United Nations and the African Union, along with human rights and humanitarian organizations, were urged to take urgent action to protect civilians and ensure unimpeded access to aid, amid a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Observers warn that the continuation of such attacks, coupled with international inaction, could further worsen the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where hundreds of thousands of displaced people are living in extremely fragile conditions, with growing needs for protection and basic services.
