Chadian Army Condemns Drone Attack

Moatinoon - Agencies
The Chadian army has condemned a drone attack it said was carried out by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which resulted in the deaths of two Chadian soldiers near the Sudanese border, according to the website channelafrica.co.za.

Chadian Armed Forces Commander, Lt. Gen. Abakar Abdelkarim Daoud, said the attack took place in the town of Tina, describing it as a deliberate violation of international law and a serious breach of Chad’s sovereignty.

Military officials stated that the two soldiers were targeted while performing their duties in the border area. The incident has heightened tensions between Chad and Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces.

Chadian authorities said they are assessing the situation and renewed their call for respect for international law and territorial borders.

On Wednesday, a drone coming from Sudan reportedly bombed a Chadian army camp in the town of Tina in eastern Chad, near the Sudanese border. The town is about three kilometers from the Chad–Sudan border. The strike killed two Chadian soldiers and wounded a third.

Hamid Hassan, governor of the province that includes the border town of Tina, confirmed the fatalities, noting at the time that he did not have information about the party responsible.

Reuters quoted a Chadian military intelligence officer—who requested anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media—saying that the drone originated from Sudanese territory.

The officer added that the air force base in the city of Abéché (eastern Chad) is on “maximum alert,” and that ground reinforcements have already been dispatched to Tina.

Tina is a transit point for Sudanese refugees before they are transferred to safer camps inside Chad. However, humanitarian sources say that a lack of funding for water, sanitation, and shelter in these camps is slowing down resettlement operations.
