The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Ali Youssouf, has condemned the recent attacks in the Kalogi area of South Kordofan, Sudan, which left more than one hundred civilians dead, including dozens of women and children inside a kindergarten.

The AU Commission Chair described the deliberate targeting of children, teachers, medical staff, and civilians who attempted to assist the wounded as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.

He expressed shock at the continuing and escalating atrocities against civilians in the region and voiced deep concern over reports of ongoing aerial bombardments and drone attacks, alongside assaults on vital civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools.

The Chairperson called on all parties to the conflict to implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, end the bloodshed, and ensure the full protection of civilians—especially women, children, and the elderly—in line with international law. He also stressed the urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian access to affected areas.

He further urged the launch of independent investigations to ensure accountability for these horrific violations and to bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that impunity cannot be tolerated.

The African Union reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Sudan and reiterated its commitment to working with regional and international partners to prevent further atrocities and support efforts aimed at restoring dialogue, peace, and stability in the country.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese human rights group “Emergency Lawyers” reported on Saturday that drones operated by the Rapid Support Forces attacked three civilian locations in a residential area of Kalogi, Kadugli Locality, on Thursday, 4 December. The strikes hit kindergartens and Kalogi Hospital as victims were being treated, before a third civilian site near the earlier locations was targeted.

In a separate development, the same group said in a statement on Sunday that RSF-operated drones attacked the main power station in Damazin, Blue Nile State, on Saturday, 6 December 2025, causing a complete power outage across the city and affecting water supplies as well.
