``Emergency Lawyers`` Hold the Army Responsible for the Killing of Almajaneen Tribal Chief

The Emergency Lawyers group has condemned the drone attack that targeted a gathering of traditional leaders in the Mazroob area of North Kordofan State last Friday, which resulted in the killing of 17 civilians — including the chief of Almajaneen tribe, Suleiman Jaber Jumaa Sahl, along with other community leaders — and left dozens injured with varying degrees of wounds.
The group held the Sudanese army fully responsible for the attack, stating in a press release on Saturday that a drone belonging to the army carried out the strike, which targeted civilians engaged in social and community roles unrelated to any military activity. The statement described the attack as a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits the targeting of civilians.
According to the statement, “the purpose of this attack appears to be to create chaos and destabilize the local social fabric,” warning of its potential impact on the stability of conflict-affected areas.
The Emergency Lawyers called for an immediate end to the targeting of civilians and for a transparent, independent investigation to hold those responsible accountable and to ensure such violations do not recur, especially amid escalating fighting across several parts of Sudan.
