Sudanese civil society organizations have called on the international community — particularly Germany and the European Union - to press for an immediate cease-fire and to facilitate humanitarian access to those affected by the war. They also urged that Sudanese civilian voices be included in all negotiation processes aimed at ending the conflict.
The appeal came in a joint statement reflecting the positions of 35 Sudanese organizations that met in Nairobi. A delegation representing these groups carried the message during a four-day official visit to Germany, where they met with senior government officials, including Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Serap Güler, and Minister of State for Economic Cooperation and Development, Bärbel Kofler, to discuss Sudan’s deteriorating humanitarian situation.
The two German officials pledged to make the Sudan file a priority for their government, stressing that they would work with allies to exert pressure on both warring parties and the states backing them to achieve peace.
German parliamentarians also received the delegation at the Bundestag, where they heard testimonies from humanitarian organizations on the severity of the crisis and the decline in international support. Several lawmakers called for a stronger German role in pressing for an end to the war.
The Sudanese delegation also participated in a conference organized by German and international NGOs, where they shared firsthand accounts of the humanitarian and political situation. The event was attended by prominent international figures, including Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, and Annett Weber, the European Union Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
