The Sudan Peace Advocacy Group launched the Sudan Peace Appeal initiative in its first press conference today. It presented its strategic vision and objectives for widespread dissemination among Sudanese citizens, aiming to end the war and build a just and sustainable peace for which the Sudanese themselves can work.

Leader and thinker Francis Deng, whose call to stop the bloodshed in Sudan inspired the group, participated in the press conference.

Deng reviewed Sudans experiences in civil wars, calling for an end to the war while preserving Sudans unity. He added in his remarks that the importance of achieving peace can create a climate that can restore unity between the North and South.

He called on the Sudanese to be proud of their Sudanese identity and to assume full responsibility for achieving peace. He said that the Sudanese must first put their internal affairs in order and then look forward to dialogue with the region and the world to achieve common interests.

During the press conference, Dr. Essam El-Din Abbas, a member of the advocacy group, presented the strategic vision of the Sudan Peace Appeal initiative. He stated that it came in response to the historical circumstances the country is experiencing, to unify efforts for peace.

Abbas emphasized that the initiative is open to all Sudanese and does not accept exclusion. It is a call for reconciliation between local communities and extends to include political elites for a sustainable peace that the Sudanese themselves work for.

He added that the initiatives vision is based on uniting all Sudanese for the peace project by launching a broad popular process for national consultation, instilling awareness of the priority of peace, and developing regional and international engagement for the benefit of peace in Sudan.

In her remarks, committee member Asmaa Al-Naeem emphasized that the initiative is independent and does not operate under any partisan umbrella to stop the war and achieve peace. She called on everyone to embrace its goals and vision. She stated that the initiatives implementation vision and mechanisms are based on stages, beginning with reaching the largest popular base and moving on to dialogue with all parties to achieve its goals.

Abdullah Al-Naeem, a member of the initiative, emphasized that those in charge of the initiative are not under the guardianship of those in charge and that it is open to all. He added that peace is both an end and a means. "Stopping war and violence is a priority and an end, and at the same time, it is a means to establishing full and comprehensive citizenship," he said, emphasizing that every Sudanese citizen is qualified and deserves full and comprehensive citizenship.

The press conference, hosted on Zoom by Nahla Farouk Abu Issa, was attended by groups of peace advocates and several journalists.
