Five children were killed and seven others injured in a drone strike near a water point in Al Mazroub, North Kordofan, a local monitoring group said.
The Kordofan Observatory said in a statement issued on Friday that the attack took place as the Sudanese army and allied Joint Forces entered Al Mazroub, which had been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The observatory said the drone was believed to have been operated by the RSF, “based on the nature of the attack, which targeted a vehicle belonging to the Joint Forces.”
It condemned the killing of the children and warned that the populated area was increasingly becoming a site of military operations. The group said it had previously warned of the risks to civilians, stressing that targeting civilians or exposing them to danger constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
The observatory called for an independent investigation to establish responsibility for the attack and hold those responsible to account. It also urged all parties to protect civilians and critical infrastructure and keep them away from military operations.
