From Berkeley to Khartoum: A Showcase Focused on Development and Food Security Issues

California – Salma Mansour
In a scene that embodied the fusion of knowledge and patriotism, University of California, Berkeley hosted an exceptional event organized by the “Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security,” led by Dr. Inam Saad and Al-Sadiq Ismail. The event was not merely an academic seminar; it evolved into a major cultural and scientific showcase highlighting the challenges of development and food security in Sudan.

The success of this event was no coincidence, but rather the result of months of dedicated work, preparation, and discussion. I had the honor of contributing to the organization of this event in close collaboration with Dr. Inam Saad, the platform’s Executive Director, as collective efforts came together to ensure an outcome worthy of the scale of challenges facing Sudan and the importance of the academic forum.

Dr. Inam Saad emphasized the importance of connecting Sudanese expertise abroad with the real needs on the ground to develop scientific solutions to food crises. The platform—representing a group of independent national experts—serves as an important voice warning against food insecurity and advocating for the adoption of modern technologies to support smallholder farmers.

The event concluded with a remarkable artistic performance that blended the richness of Sudanese heritage with a global spirit, led by artists Mohamed Adroub and Mohamed Abu Araki Al-Bakhit, accompanied by a multicultural ensemble from different countries.

Through this event, the “Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security” lays a new foundation for building bridges between science, art, and national engagement, affirming that the path toward development begins with knowledge and culminates in human unity.
