Emergency Lawyers: Five Civilians Killed in Alleged Army Attack in North Kordofan

The Emergency Lawyers Group said five civilians were killed and more than 10 others, including women and children, were injured in an attack carried out by a vehicle belonging to an army force in areas northeast of Jabra Al-Sheikh in Sudan’s North Kordofan State on Monday, August 10, 2026.

In a statement issued today, the group said preliminary information it had received indicated that an armed vehicle moved from Jabra Al-Sheikh toward areas northeast of the town, where it allegedly targeted farmers, herders and unarmed civilians in their farms, homes and grazing areas, in the absence of any fighting or clashes.

According to the group, the attack resulted in the killing of Sheikh Awadallah Abdullah, his son and another person, as well as the deaths of other civilians in separate locations. More than 10 people were reportedly injured.

The group added that members of the force allegedly detained a number of civilians during the attack before the armed vehicle returned to Jabra Al-Sheikh.

The Emergency Lawyers Group strongly condemned what it described as the targeting of unarmed civilians and held the Sudanese Army responsible for violations allegedly committed by the force under its command.

It said that deliberately targeting and killing civilians outside the context of hostilities constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and could amount to war crimes.

The group called for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident, identification and prosecution of those responsible, and the immediate release of all detained civilians. It also called for guarantees of their safety and protection from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

The group further urged army leadership and forces operating in the area to strictly comply with their obligations to protect civilians and respect international humanitarian law, halt attacks against civilians and their property, and ensure that perpetrators of violations are held accountable.
